Born and raised in Pierre Part, Louisiana, Sheila grew up with a deep love for family and community. All she ever wanted was to be a mom and a wife. She met the love of her life, Gary Cavalier, and the two were married on September 27, 1975.
On April 16, 1986, in their living room, Sheila and Gary gave their lives to God. From that moment on, Jesus came first in her life. Sheila loved the Lord deeply, and her faith guided every step she took. No matter the struggles she faced, she always said, “God has been good.”
March of 1991 was the fulfillment of a prayer. After years of asking God for a newborn baby girl, He answered in the most beautiful way — they adopted Hannah, the blessing their hearts had long been waiting for.
Shortly after Hannah was born, Sheila and Gary entered ministry together. For 26 years, Sheila served faithfully as a minister’s wife — a role she carried with grace, humility, and steadfast devotion. She stood beside Gary as his greatest supporter, offering encouragement, wisdom, and a quiet strength that uplifted him and the lives they touched. She was a true helpmate, a steady presence, and a beautiful example of a servant’s heart.
Sheila was a devoted wife, mother, and “Nonnie,” whose love extended far beyond her own home. Many affectionately knew her as “Momma Sheila,” a reflection of her warmth, compassion, and open-hearted nature. Her life was defined by love, faith, and quiet strength. Though she endured lifelong medical challenges, she never complained; instead, she spoke constantly of God’s goodness with a faith that never wavered. She touched countless lives with her kindness, her gentleness, and her unwavering belief in the goodness of God.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Cavalier; her daughter, Hannah Cavalier Severio (Chris); and her granddaughters, Esther Parrish and Delilah Coley. She is also survived by her sisters: Edna Hunter, Mona Blanchard (Clark), Margaret Hebert (Chris), Chantel Gaudet (Floyd), and Ashley Hebert (Nelson); as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends who loved her deeply.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Poirrier and David Mabile, and her brothers, Larry Mabile and Sam Mabile.
