

SHREVEPORT, LA – Funeral services celebrating the life of Simon Dewey Bouknight, Jr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Christ United Methodist Church in Shreveport. Officiating will be Rev. Tom Howe. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.
Simon was born on December 20, 1921 in Lexington, SC and passed away on October 19, 2012 in Shreveport, LA. He spent 38 ½ years with The Shreveport Times as a printer/linotype operator. He served his country proudly in the US Army Air Force, 312th Bomber Squadron in the South Pacific Theater during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon Dewey Bouknight, Sr. and Anna Bell Culberson; step- mother, Alice Bouknight; brother, Lt. Commander Foy Hook Bouknight and son-in- law, Wesley Gusko.
Left to cherish his memories is his wife of 66 years, Winnie Laverne Greer Bouknight of Shreveport, LA; son, Huey Randall Bouknight and wife Pat of Greenwood, SC; daughters, Susan Bouknight Prothro and husband Joe of Greenwood, SC and Sherri Bouknight Gusko of Shreveport, LA; sisters- in- law, Ann Hess Bouknight and Lalon Pirkey and husband James; brother, Robert Keith Bouknight and wife Mary Carole of Batesville-Leesville, SC, brother-in-law, Murphy Greer and wife Ethel; six grandchildren, Nathan Bouknight of Philadelphia, PA, Ryan Bouknight and wife Jordan of Edisto Beach, SC, Kyle Prothro of Charleston, SC, Andrew Prothro of Charleston, SC, Michael Gusko and wife Jessica of Shreveport, LA and Elizabeth Gusko of Shreveport, LA; two great grandchildren, Hannah Gusko and Emma Gusko; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honoring Mr. Bouknight as pallbearers will be Joe Prothro, Nathan Bouknight, Ryan Bouknight, Kyle Prothro, Andrew Prothro, Michael Gusko and Elizabeth Gusko. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Joy Sunday School Class and the Wednesday Morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast at Christ United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the Grace Home or Christ United Methodist Church.
