Sybil Marcelle Abel went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at the age of 106. Born on January 24, 1920, Marcelle lived with steady devotion to home, family, and her faith, offering a life marked by quiet strength, faithful care, and a deep appreciation for the people she loved. Marcelle will be remembered for the warmth she brought to everyday moments and the enduring example she set through a long life well lived.
Marcelle dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker, creating a home shaped by patience, constancy, and love. She also gave her time as a volunteer at the VFW, serving others with the same dependable spirit that guided her life. Marcelle was a devoted Christian, who read her bible daily. Her faith was a very important part of her life.
Her warmth showed in the simple joys she loved most—quilting and crochet, the pleasure of a good book, and, above all, being with people, especially her family. Though she didn’t care for getting in the water, she still delighted in boat rides. She treasured shopping trips with her daughter and granddaughters, and she never outgrew the pleasure of popcorn and sweets shared in good company.
Marcelle was preceded in death by her husband, Louis W. Abel; her daughter, Janice Sue Lewis; her father, Andrew Preston Clemens; her mother, Rose A. Clemens; her brother, Jimmy Clemens; her sister, Iona Mae Betts; and her grandson, Jim Sasser.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carol Ann Sasser; her son, Andy Abel (Mary); her grandchildren, Brenda Sasser, Sue Jones (Robbie), Donna Robertson (David), Linda Sands (Paul), Kim Kelly, Mark Farhner, Alicia Adamson (Mark), and Jason Abel (Jessie); her great-grandchildren, Robby, Tracey, Kelley, Chad, Mitchell, Alex, Joshua, Sophia, Casie, Ty, Brooke, Chase, Destiny, Grayson, Colbie, Corley, Granger, and Tristin; her great great-grandchildren, Paisley, Gannon, Makayla, Brooks, and Hallie; her great great great-grandchild, Cooper; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
A visitation will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108, on November 7, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow beginning at 12:00 pm, officiated by Bro. Pat Richardson and Bro. Dale Sauls. She will then be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Park.
Honoring her as pallbearers will be Mark Farhner, Jason Abel, Ty Farhner, Chase Morris, Grayson Abel, Granger Abel, and Connor Burt.
