Verna Martha Smith

She was born in Caddo Parish, town of Belcher, LA, and grew up in Vivian, LA. She and her husband, Sam, were married December 3, 1942, in Jefferson, TX, and resided in Vivian, LA, until June, 1963, when work had them moving to Pampa, TX, and then to Liberal, KS, in April, 1968. Their final move together was to Shreveport, LA, in 1985.

In January 2014, due to medical reasons, Verna moved to Highlands Ranch, CO, to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She continued to live with them until her passing in May 2017.

She is survived by her son, Samuel Dave Smith, III of Tulsa, OK, and her daughter, Susan J. Leggett of Highlands Ranch, CO; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, survive her.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Centuries Memorial Park.
