Randy & Jared Coon
June 26, 2021
We first met "Buddy" Phiffer a few years ago when he was already in his 80's. He met my son, Jared first and they seemed to quickly develop a close friendship, despite the difference in their ages. Age didn't seem to matter much to Buddy. He was just a treasure of a person as Jared told me before I had the opportunity to meet him myself one day at my front door as he stopped by to see us and to discuss some matters. I totally agreed with Jared. Buddy was a totally delightful, kind and compassionate and happy man. He had won over the both of us that quickly. Actually, we had met Mr. and Mrs. Phiffer at the funeral of their son, Stanley a few years earlier. But getting to know him personally and talking with him was an absolute delight. That he seemed to have warm feelings for my son really made me feel wonderful about him as he was such a warm person himself. He was 87 that day, driving himself around in his own truck. He didn't want to "bother us" to come in [as if he would have]. But at his age, he stood firmly there at our front door for what must have been close to an hour. It was an absolute delight. Our only regret was that we had not met and grown closer to him and his wife much earlier in our lives. The few short years that we have been able to know him and his family, Donna, his grandsons, HIS only great grandson, Christopher Broley, who we shared as family as "Broley" is MY grandson and is Jared's nephew. And like his Mama, Julia Coon, my daughter and Jared's sister is a happy blonde, blue-eyed 2 1/2 y/o little boy who has one cousin that I know of--> my other grandson, Dylan, who currently lives here with his Mama, Uncle Bubba [Jared] and me. I am so very overjoyed that I was able to share a small portion of this very unique and wonderfully kind man's life, and look forward to getting closer to his widow as we finish the balance of our trek here on this Earth. Love to all.

The Final Salute
“Brothers and Sisters-in-Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Walter Buel (Buddy) Phiffer our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Buddy. To Buddy it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Navy. Buddy, we commend you for your honorable military service. You are a true patriot, who served your nation and your community with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. GOD Bless you. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
