Wayne Allen Jordan, 76, passed away Friday April 9, 2021 after a short illness. He was born September 23, 1944 in Clay County, North Carolina to Victor B. Jordan and Pauline Rebecca Caler Jordan. Wayne was the 5th child out of 10 and was raised in Brasstown, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul Jordan, Edward Jordan, Gerald Jordan and Ray Jordan; and sister, Vicky Jordan.
He is survived by his brothers, Lorin Jordan of North Carolina and Bruce Jordan with wife Vonda of Georgia; sisters, Thelma Jordan Garrett of North Carolina and Phyllis Jordan Brown of North Carolina,
along with several nieces and nephews. Wayne often talked about his family in NC and would call them every week to keep up with them. Phyllis always kept him included.
Wayne joined the United States Army in 1961, where he was stationed in Germany. After coming home, he started working with General Motors. In 1983 Wayne packed his bags and headed West to Shreveport, LA in his 1972 El Camino, which he treasured for 22 years (the car he got from his brother, Bruce). He would call Shreveport home for the next 38 years. His love for his Chevrolets continued with his red and blue GMC, which for a long time he never drove the blue one in the rain and they never had a spot on them.
He was very proud of September 28, 1984, an important date to him. This was the day that he celebrated his 1st day of sobriety, which changed his life forever.
Shortly after in 1985 RJ’s Restaurant opened and there he became a regular customer finding one of his best friends in Shreveport, Gene Chesser. They would be found talking and drinking plenty of coffee. This lead him to his future Louisiana family that he became one of. From the original Joan to the next JoAnn he was always part of the family. He became Uncle to Vicky & Dana and great uncle to Jodie, Marshall and Barrett and attended all events and holidays, from cookouts to Friday night poker to Saturday night Auctions with Gene & JoAnn and Kay & Danny.
Wayne was best known for sending cards to everyone for every occasion with stickers on them that he received in the mail from his contribution to certain organizations. He had plenty stickers, calendars, note pads, and trinkets to pass around to everyone.
He was one of a group of September Birthdays that had a tradition of celebrating at their favorite restaurant, Shogun for years. One of his favorite memories was Christmas in 2005, when Vicky gave him his 1st microwave. Whether he ever used it or not we are not sure.
Wayne would finally retire in 2008 from GM after 39 ½ years, where he was known as Repairman and to others as factory rat. If he wasn't at home he could be found at his favorite spots, LA downs horse racing, Kroger’s, USPO, Carter FCU, Casino, RJ’s, Tobacco Rack and occasionally KFC chicken place.
He had a love of playing the lottery and also had to get his tickets everyday and sometimes he did win. We know now he has hit his jackpot at home in Heaven with his family. Wayne will truly be missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for Wayne will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM. Bro Darwin Hunter will be officiating the services.
