William "Bill" Shelton Dockery

Shreveport, Louisiana

Celebration of Life services for Mr. William “Bill” S. Dockery will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 4, 2010, at Providence Road Baptist Church, Keithville, Louisiana with Brother Chris Young officiating. Interment will follow in the Centuries Memorial Park, Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will be held Friday evening between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Dockery was born June 24, 1933, to the late Charles Clifford and Emma Eula Shirley Dockery in Shreveport, Louisiana. Mr. Dockery served this grateful nation in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a postman with the United States Postal Service for thirty-four years. He enjoyed woodwork, and was an avid fisherman. Mr. Dockery’s most remembered career would be as a bass player, when he played with the Nat Stuckey Band along with many accomplished older artists. He will be remembered most as a beloved husband, devoted father, doting grandfather, caring sibling, and faithful friend to all who knew him.

Left to cherish “Bill’s” memories and tell his stories will be his beloved wife of forty-four years, Mrs. Edith Dockery; one son, Donnie Hodges and wife Ruby; one daughter, Amy Graham and husband Mike; two sisters, Dorothy Townsend and Joann Waldrop and husband Gary, one brother, Charles C. Dockery and wife Edna, four grandchildren: Tammy Hodges, Karen Speights, Ashley Graham, Christopher Graham; two great-grandchildren: Cody Hodges and Logan Carrington along with a host of extended family members and many great friends.

Honoring Mr. Dockery as pallbearers will be Kevin Rolland, Chip Rogers, Christopher Graham, Travis Adams, Cody Hodges, and Steve Jurik.

The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Life Care for their care and compassion expressed to Mr. Dockery during his time of need. Any donations may be made in honor of Mr. Dockery to the building fund of Providence Road Baptist Church, Keithville, Louisiana.
