MILLER, Harris – 91, Shubenacadie East, with great sadness and sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father on April 4, 2011. Harris was born in New Harbour, Guysborough County, he was the only son of the late Fannie and Stanley Miller. Harris spent hours as a child working on the farm with his dad and also spent time in the woods. A carpenter all his life, he carried his knowledge and dedication to hard work throughout his lifetime. Many long hours building homes, apartments, businesses and seniors homes did not stop him from building 3 homes for Grace and their children in his spare time. After retiring, Harris and Grace bought a farm and raised cows and sheep for fun. Making hay with his family was one of his joys. Harris loved boating and skating on Porters Lake also picking berries, and he had a fondness for red potatoes. He and Grace planted a large garden every year and shared the harvest with family and friends. Family was everything to Harris and there were many meals and get-togethers at their home filled with stories and laughter. Crippling arthritis and partial blindness did not stop him from being there for all of us right up to the day he died. His presence in this world will be deeply, profoundly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Grace (Ackles), sons David (Rita), John (Jeanne), daughters Donna (Freeman), Dale (Victor); four grandchildren, four great grandchildren; sister Violet. He was predeceased by sisters Essie and Mary, also two grandchildren. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. By request of the family, there will be no visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Colchester Regional Hospital Foundation. Special thanks go out to the staff at Colchester Regional Hospital for their excellent care and kindness during his passing.
