

GREGORY, William Henry “Harry” - 86, Elmsdale, passed away peacefully, September 22, 2011, at the Veterans Memorial Hospital, Halifax, 3 Cedar West. Born in Lunenburg, and raised in Halifax, he was the only son of the late William and Mary (Pike) Gregory. He was a veteran of the Second World War. He was employed for 39 years with the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission, retiring in 1989. He was a devoted and loving husband of 60 years to his best friend Mary (Pearl) and their marriage touched the lives of many in their commitment to each other. He was a kind and gentle man who always thought of others first. He was a father figure to his nieces and nephews and his strength and compassion will be long remembered by his family and all he touched. He will be greatly missed by Gregory, Michael, John, Deborah, Derek, Ronnie, James, Wayne, Bryan, Gary, Gayle, Gina and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was a man of remarkable Christian Faith who loved his church. His greatest passion was harness racing and sports. He owned race horses for over 60 years and raced them all over the Maritimes. He was predeceased by sisters Justina, Theodora, Irene and his twin sister Ruth. Upon family request there will be no visitation. A mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 10 am, Monday, September 26, in St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, Enfield, Father Andrew Rembarczyk officiating. Interment will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
