Joan Evelyn Young

YOUNG, Joan Evelyn, 76 of Stewiacke formerly of Hatchet Lake passed away Friday October 14th, 2011 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Hatchet Lake she was the daughter of the late Lester and Hilda (Brommit) Umlah. She served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for eight years in various posts in Canada. Joan was a bookkeeper for several companies until her retirement. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making up songs and stories about her family. She is survived by her son Trevor (Traci) New Waterford, one granddaughter Lily in Berwick sisters Marjorie Young Hatchet Lake and Barbara Ripley Truro, brother Harold (Mary) B. C., Joan is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her son Tracey, sisters Rita, Gladys, Marion, and Shirley, brothers Warren, Gordon, Lester, Jack and Donald. There will be a visitation at Ettinger Funeral Home Shubenacadie ( Exit 10 off the 102 HWY) on Monday October 17, 2011 from 6 pm till 9 pm. Funeral services 11 am Wednesday October 19th 2011 at Wittenberg Baptist Church with Keith Grant officiating. There will be a reception following the service at the church. Interment will take place at Sunrise Cemetery Hatchet Lake. Donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the IWK Foundation.
