

LEDWIDGE, Mary Kathleen, Enfield. It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Mary Kathleen Ledwidge of Enfield at the age of 85 on April 17, 2011 with her family by her side. Mary was born on July 22, 1925 in Carrolls Corner along with twin brother George, to the late Dunlap and Annie (Langmead) Phalen of Carrolls Corner. She married her husband Harold on June 17, 1942 and moved to Enfield from Goffs in 1944 where they raised their family and lived their lives. Mary was a resident of Magnolia Nursing Home, Sunflower Cottage in Enfield since December 2010 and prior to that at Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home, 5th floor for 2 years. Mary was an active member of Legion Ladies Auxiliary in her earlier years and also along with her best friend Joan Stewart and Fannie Inkpen did catering for the Enfield Fire Department. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Lightle, Dorothy (Edmund “Butch”) Miller, Shirley (Roger) Lefrense, Corrina (Brian) Wheaton, Una Ledwidge and her only son Francis (Debbie) Ledwidge, and her son-in-law Richard McNair and friend Gabrielle, 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Thelma (San) and her companion Reg and sisters-in-law Doris Phalen, Bea Ledwidge, Doris Ledwidge, and brother-in-law Duncan and his wife Georgina along with many nieces and nephews whom she cared for dearly, also survives her. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold in 1986; daughter Aletha in 1999 and son-in-law Edward Lightle in 1998, her twin brother George and his wife Thelma, brothers John (Bun) and Angus and two siblings Hilton and Elizabeth in infancy, her brothers-in-law Joseph, Donald, Bernard and his wife Sophie, Robert and his wife Marie and sisters-in-law Ethel and her husband Raymond and Anna and her husband Elmer. Visitation will be 2-4 & 7-9pm on Tuesday, April 19 at Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Hwy 2, Shubenacadie with a funeral mass 10am, Wednesday, April 20, in St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, Enfield, Father Andrew Rembarczyk officiating. Burial to follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Enfield Fire Hall. A special thank you to the staff of The Magnolia and also St. Vincent’s where Mum spent her last few years.
