

SMITH, Paul Lamond., July 27, 1934 – January 8, 2011, Shubenacadie. Died peacefully at home surrounded by family. Born in Halifax he was the son of the late Claude and Ethel (Wallace) Smith. Paul studied geology at Mount Allison University. He worked in the mining industry in Northern Ontario; Elliot Lake and at Kid Creek Mine in Timmins, Ontario. From 1975 -1999, he was contract manager for Bradley Brothers Diamond Drilling of Noranda, Quebec and Timmins, Ontario. He retired in 1999, moved back to Nova Scotia in 2006 and built his dream home on the home farm in Shubenacadie where he grew up. His leisure time was spent curling (where he excelled) cross country skiing and summers at the cottage with family and friends. Paul also enjoyed gardening and planting trees. Survived by the love of his life of 52 years Dorothy Branch, children Brenda Ceaser (Nick Kanya- Forstner), Timmins ON,; Wallace (Mireille Gagnon), Bradford, ON.; Terri McAllister (Sidney McAllister), Swansea, Wales; Charlene (Steven Butler) Toronto, ON.; eight grandchildren Adrienne, Graham, Gregory Ceaser, Jeremy and Marise Smith, Kyle McAllister, Zachary and Eric Butler; sister Wilma MacPhee (Gerald), Shubenacadie; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Harriet Cuffe (1995). Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. Visitation 1pm until time of service at 2pm Friday, in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812, Hwy 2, Shubenacadie, M. Dale Crawford officiating. Interment in Brookside Cemetery, Mill Village. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Shubenacadie United Church Roofing Fund, PO Box 4, Shubenacadie, NS, B0N 2H0, in memory of Paul.
