CONNICK, Pearl A. – 89, Bedford formerly of Shubenacadie passed away very peacefully with family by her side at Shannex- Bissett Court Dartmouth on February 19th, 2011. Born and brought up in Shubenacadie she was a daughter of the late Newton and Cora (Turple) Zwicker. As a young woman, Pearl was a quietly determined young lady who set goals for herself and did whatever was necessary to achieve those goals. When she graduated from high school she was determined that she would become a school teacher. However, she was very young when she completed her Grade 12. She then wanted to attended Normal College (later known as Teachers College). Because she was so young she had to wait a year before going to Normal College. Being resourceful she decided to attend Miss Murphy’s Business College in Halifax. To do this Pearl had to travel by train daily from Shubenacadie to Halifax. She successfully completed her business course. The following year she attended Normal College in Truro again travelling daily in the other direction by train back and forth each day from Shubenacadie to Truro. Pearl fulfilled her dream of becoming a teacher and received her teachers license in the late 1930’s. In the first year of teaching some of Pearl’s students were older than she was. Pearl went on to have a 30 year career in the teaching profession. Being a classroom teacher and a school principal in various locations throughout Nova Scotia. In her final years of teaching Pearl was a Commercial Course Teacher at Hants East Rural High thus utilizing both aspects of her training, teacher’s training and business training. Pearl’s resourcefulness and determination most definitely paid off and she was, and still is, a wonderful, inspiring example for her daughter and grandchildren. Pearl was totally devoted to her daughter, Paula (Greg) Isenor, Bedford; and her grandchildren Brett Isenor (Monica), Calgary; Gavin Isenor (Stacey), Fall River; Leah Morin (Ray), Calgary; Regan Isenor, Halifax; great grandchildren, Gabriel, Samuel, William, Ashton and Aidan. They were her main focus and love of her life. Also surviving sister, Pansy Flemming, Toronto; brother, Marlin Zwicker (Ruth), Bedford; six nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Lindsay F.
