

MILLER, Velma Lilian-93, Northfield, Hants County/Durham, Pictou County. Surrounded by her family, Velma went to be with her Lord on December 6, 2011 at the Colchester Regional Hospital. She was born in Minasville on December 4, 1918, the daughter of the late Wilbert and Lilian (Wright) Ettinger. Velma looked for the good in everyone and touched many lives with her warmth, caring and heart- warming smile. She was very active in her church and community and worked tirelessly to help establish the Hants North Medical Centre. She was a member of the Nova Scotia Women’s Institute, Hants North Home and School, the Church Guild and choir. Velma loved music and as a child, she and her sister Adeline sang at local concerts accompanied by their mother or their sister Lelia. She loved tending her flower gardens, sewing and quilting and made quilts for all her sons and daughters. She loved to travel to visit her family and at the age of 82, drove across Canada with friends. She was proud of her beloved grandchildren, taking an interest in their activities and they in turn cherished her. Mum showed us how to live a beautiful life in good times and in bad. She left us a legacy of strength, love and faith. She is survived by her children Gary (Ellen), Wendell (Edna), Brenda Alcock (Barry), Velda Kelly (Vernon), Connie Patricia Crowe (John), Kim (Verna), Lelia Sanford (Dale), Micki MacDonald (Gary), Melvin (Verta), Brian (Sheena), Greg (Rae); sister Adeline O’Brien; thirty five grandchildren and forty nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Wallace “Bunn” Miller, daughter Wanda Kenney, son-in-law Laine Kenney, grandson David Miller and great grandsons William LeBlanc and Steven Deebank, sister Lelia Faulkner and brothers Claude and LeRoy Ettinger. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. No visitation by request. A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm, Thursday, December 8, in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Northfield, Hants County, Rev. Beverly DeVouge officiating assisted by Rev. Lori Ramsey. A reception at Four Points Community Hall, Latties Brook following the service. Family flowers only, donations may be made in Velma’s memory to St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Northfield or a charity of your choice.
