Cleatus Glenn Lemmons, Jr. was born May 27th, 1949 in Cape Girardeau, MO. He is the second child of Cleatus Glenn Lemmons, Sr. and Marjorie Thomas, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Nancy Parker of Borger, TX, his son Glenn Barrett and his wife Tracy of Fort Worth, TX, daughter Brooke Deal and her husband Shawn of Bethany, WV, his son Logan Parker and his wife Jessica of Cape Girardeau, MO and his son Benton Ross and his wife Stephanie of Sikeston, MO. He and Nancy have 9 grandchildren: Avery, Parker, Lilah, Cecelia, Asher, Riley, Jake, Selah and Archer. He is also survived by his sister Gay Lemmons of Cookeville, TN and his brother Thomas Grant of Fort Worth, TX.
“He is my hero”…a phrase uttered to our grieving family by so many because Glenn Lemmons was a man with actual super powers. He was utterly selfless; his life was devoted to feeding the world, to nurturing soil, and to growing the most indescribably beautiful family. He was completely devoted to his wife Nancy of 50 years, a love so profound that it was the embodiment of the ancient Song, “for love is strong as death,
passion fierce as the grave.
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
a raging flame.
7 Many waters cannot quench love,
neither can floods drown it.”
His curiosity was limitless and his quest for biblical knowledge created a decades long conversation between he and his daughter who discussed biblical languages, ancient artifacts, and the deepest existential and theological questions. Roles were reversed but never for long. His children learned daily lessons in family, in faith, the dignity and importance of hard work and in the unconditional love of a relentlessly devoted father. The multigenerational Lemmons Farm was cultivated with the love for the SEMO gumbo and the skills passed down from Arch, to CG sr. to CG jr. to Barrett, to Logan, to Ross and many more to come.
His laughter was constant and even in the darkest times, was omnipotent and omnipresent—it will never fade; it is immortal. Our father, the devoted husband, the “Yuh-Yuh”/”GeeVee” with giant hands, strong arms, soulful eyes, and the most tender heart was placed here as in Eden, “to till the earth” to be its steward and to be our hero.
He is now in heaven as he was on earth—singing, learning, nurturing, and protecting.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 6:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Sikeston, MO.
