
DeKalb “D.K.” Lape, 83, of Sikeston, died Monday, September 5, 2011 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Born December 16, 1927, in Advance, to the late Cooper and Ida McKinney Lape, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a self-employed farmer and a member of the Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church of Sikeston. On March 10, 1945, in Bloomfield, he was married to Cozette Knight, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Sally Lape, Terry and Sandy Lape, and Ken and Mary Lape, all of Sikeston. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Deke Lape, Carrie Lape, Clay Lape, Katie Lape, Cooper Lape, Ashleigh Lape, Riley Lape, Kenleigh Lape and Katherine Lape; and four great grandsons: Jay, Collin, Will and Blake Lape.
He was preceded in death by ten brothers and two sisters. One son, David K. Lape, also preceded him in death on June 22, 2011.
Visitation will be from 10:00am until time of the funeral service at 1:00pm on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at the Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Tom Bass, former pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. John Goodwin, pastor.
Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston. Pallbearers will be: Deke Lape, Clay Lape, Cooper Lape, Riley Lape, Tim Davis and Paul Lape. Honorary pallbearers will be: Lee Shell, Gerald Howard, Lennie Whitworth, Bill Deane, Sr., Keith Conrad and Dwight Vaughn.
