

Donnie Ruth Rose, age 74, lost her battle with cancer at 5:50 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2014, at her home. Born February 27, 1940, in Hornersville, Mo., to the late Lawrence Williams and Veola Williams Quarles, she graduated as valedictorian from Hornersville Schools, and continued her education at Arkansas State University, where she was awarded the title of Miss Arkansas State. She taught school for a total of 34 years, retiring from the Sikeston Public School System in 1996. Not only was she a beloved teacher, mother and mawmaw, she was a dear and loved friend to many.
Surviving of the home is her husband, Charles Rose.
In addition to her husband, survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, De’Nekia and John Nelson of Sikeston, and Heather and Tim Hill of Sikeston. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Kai and Kaiden Lambert, and Meghan, Cooper, Errynn, Brennah and Emmersynn Hill.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Kinchen.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 6, beginning at 11 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, with Buddy Heaton of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomfield, officiating.
Private interment will follow at a later date at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery.
