Ellis James Largent died of complications from Crohn’s Disease, surrounded by family on January 13, 2023. Ellis was born June 5, 1978, in Sikeston, Missouri to his parents James D. Largent and Carol T. Reynaud. The youngest of four siblings, Ellis’ gregarious and fun personality began to emerge almost immediately. Ellis graduated from St. Denis Catholic Elementary School and then Thomas W. Kelly High School. He moved to Columbia, Missouri to attend the University of Missouri. To say he enjoyed college the experience would be a gross understatement. He graduated from Columbia College in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He promptly moved to San Diego, California where he lived until his death. As with his discovery of college life, Ellis took full advantage of the social opportunities a beach community like San Diego offered. Ellis was truly a light and a joy to be around and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him immediately knew he was a person you would call one of your best friends. It was in San Diego where he met the love of his life, Sarah Clariza. Ellis and Sarah were together for 16 years and made their home in La Jolla where they were active in their church and in the community.
Ellis held variety of jobs during his time in San Diego, but it was not until he joined a group of friends to form Opulen Capital in 2009 that he truly found his professional calling. He took great pride and enjoyment in helping his retired clients navigate the financial tool of life settlements. He continued to work until Crohn’s Disease prevented him from doing so.
A loving partner, son, uncle, and brother, Ellis is survived by his fiancé Sarah Clariza. He was preceded in death by his father James D. Largent, and survived by his mother Carol Reynaud Largent, and his siblings, Kevin Largent (Rebecca) of St. Louis; Tess Largent of San Diego; Celeste Gamboa (Tim) of Kansas City; and Sarah’s family who reside in Seattle, Washington; her mother Gloria Clariza and brother Ronnie Clariza (Cassandra). Ellis was adored by anyone who knew him but perhaps there was no group where this feeling was stronger than among his nieces and nephews, Sophia and Gareth Largent of St. Louis; Eli and Lincoln Hauser of San Diego; Isabella Gamboa of Kansas City; Ryland, Maliyah, and Kaiya Clariza of Seattle.
A public visitation will take place on Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, Missouri from 4:00 pm until time of Rosary service at 7:00 pm. A funeral mass will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, January 23, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton, Missouri with burial immediately following at St. Denis Cemetery.
