

George Andrew “Andy” Childers of Belleview, Missouri, passed away peacefully at his home on March 30. 2026. Andy was born on October 19, 1954, to his loving parents, George and Nancy Lambert Childers at Missouri Delta Hospital in Sikeston, Missouri.
Andy grew up in Chicago, Illinois, Sikeston and Blodgett, Missouri. He attended Nathan Hale Elementary in Blue Island, Illinois, Sikeston Public Schools, and graduated from Thomas W. Kelly High School in Benton. His college career included Southeast Missouri State University and Rolla School of Mines.
Post graduation, Andy, enlisted in the United States Air Force and served at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada as an integrated avionics systems specialist mechanic in the avionics maintenance squadron and worked on F111 fighter jets. He received numerous awards for excellence and safety when he served.
Andy was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish and hunt and shared that love with his nephews Daniel, Ted, and Drew. He loved nature as evidenced in his interest in gardening, horticulture, and farming. He cultivated a beautiful yard at his home in Belleview, Missouri along with his beloved wife, Robbie.
Andy had a long career as an exploration and mine geologist. He even had his own company, Mississippi Valley Minerals LLC. He worked for Lonestar Industries in Cape Girardeau for many years and for the Doe Run Company in Viburnum, Missouri for the remainder of his career. Andy earned many citations for excellence in mining, as well as for commendations for safety and rescue missions in the mines. He did many explorations in the United States, including Alaska and Maine. He also did mine exploration for mines in Peru. He did numerous things in this mining career in research and development, and he mentored many people throughout his career.
Andy married the love of his life, Roberta “Robbie” Matthews Childers on August 19, 1978, in Sikeston, Missouri. Together they built a lifetime of love, laughter, and togetherness. Robbie supported Andy through his career, life, and struggle with cancer in recent years. She was truly his soul mate and help mate, his confidant, his love, and his strength throughout their 47-year marriage. She was the last person he saw and spoke to before his death and that was the only thing Andy ever wanted.
Andy is survived by his beloved wife, Robbie, of Belleview, his precious mother, Nancy Childers of Millersville, two loving sisters and brother in-laws, Ami and Gerald Walton of Millersville, Penny and Tony Coleman of Scopus, and Conrad Young of Frisco, Texas. He is survived by his precious nephews, nieces, Daniel, Lindsay, Ted, Drew, and Taylor and by great nephews and niece, Wyatt, Wesley, Scarlett, and Carson, Landon, Anson, and Mackenzie who adored their Uncle Andy.
He was preceded in death by his best friend, his daddy, George and his precious sister Cissy Young. Also, by his grandparents, Jessie and Nellie Lambert, Susan and Oliver Childers.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, MO with Dewayne Coleman, pastor of Canalou Baptist Church in Canalou, MO, officiating.
Internment will follow in the Bloomfield Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO will full military honors.
