

Born on May 9, 1936, in St. Louis, MO, son of Harry Cullen Blanton and Maureen Daily Blanton.
He attended Campion High School (Wisconsin) and Sikeston High School, the University of Notre Dame (BA), University of Missouri (JD), Loyola University (MA), and Saint Louis University (PhD).
Harry married Carol Marie Page on February 4, 1959. He worked as an attorney at Blanton, Blanton and Rice, then as an educator at Jesuit and Catholic universities; Loyola U. (freshman dean), Saint Louis U. (assistant to President Robert Reinhardt, SJ), St. Francis College (vice president), Rockhurst College, Mount St. Joseph College (academic dean), and Park College (vice president). Additionally he taught English Literature courses at all these universities and also taught Law & Literature at the University of Missouri, Kansas City Law School.
Harry was passionate about books, a voracious reader and loved writing. He was a huge sports fan, following the St. Louis Cardinals for 85+ years, and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He loved all kinds of music, and loved to dance.
He was a loving, caring man, led by example, and like his late wife, Carol, fully supported his children’s endeavors.
He is survived by his second wife, Jane Bess, who he married in April 2009, his children Michael (Dawn), Christopher (Jenny), Laura Murphy (John), Anne Cross, Harry and John (Krista), his brother Lewis, two sisters in law, Barbara and Claire, a brother in law, David Page, his wife Jane's daughter, Emily (Kyle) and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife Carol, his parents, his siblings, Rosemary, Patricia, Maureen, John, Anne and Joseph.
A visitation will be held on, Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 10:00 AM with a funeral to follow at Noon at St. Francis Xavier Church, 245 W. Front Street, Sikeston, MO 63801.
Internment will follow in the Sikeston City Cemetery in Sikeston, MO.
