She was born on October 18th, 1932, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, daughter of the late C.J. and Mary Gladys Stevens.
Janet was a proud graduate of Sikeston Senior High School where she was a cheerleader and Red Pepper officer. She made SHS friendships that lasted her entire life. Her daughter, Jill, referred to their lunch dates in their later years as “Red Pepper Officer Meetings.”
After high school, Janet attended Southeast Missouri State University where she made more lifelong friends, with whom she still stayed in touch. Janet graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education. Eventually, she came home to Sikeston and taught at Southgrade Elementary School.
On June 29th, 1956, she married Bob L. Moore of Cape Girardeau. The two met while in college, and she commented that he was the only man she ever loved. They were married for 36 years until his passing in 1992.
Survivors include her daughter, Jill Hopson, her much-loved son-in-law, Jon Hopson, and granddaughters, Sarah (Hunter), and Rachel, about whom she said, “They saved my life after Bob died.” Her granddaughters were her greatest joy. When Sarah got engaged to and married her husband, Hunter Dugan, “Nana” was witness to all of it, and requested that Hunter walk her down the aisle at their wedding. Not long after the wedding, she made it known that she was ready for a great-grandchild. She was doubly blessed 2024 with two great-grandsons, Clark Henry Dugan, and Jon Robert Dugan. In addition, she had a host of nephews, nieces, and greats who loved her as much as she loved them. They include Roger, Gary (Becky), and Scott (Lori) Bierschwal as well as Matt Stevens, Debbie Stevens, Cathy (Tom) Mills, Diana Thompson, and Georgie Mari.
The celebration of her life will be held at Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church in Sikeston, Missouri on Monday, July 14th, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
