John Thomas McMullin passed away on September 2, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Tom (or Tommy to his sisters) was born on May 13, 1956 in Sikeston, Missouri to the late Wilson S. and Nora Cowgur McMullin. He graduated from Cape Central High School in 1974 and then served in the Air Force.
He made a career doing what he loved whether it was laying asphalt, construction, operating heavy equipment, long haul truck driving or quarry work.
Tom was everyone’s best friend. He loved hosting celebrations at his home, the McMullin Family Farm in north Scott County, Missouri. He was an avid outdoorsman known for a great shot and found joy when new hunters took their first trophy off the farm.
He had the best laugh and the strongest hands. He could build or fix anything with limited resources. He loved to make homemade pumpkin and chocolate pies for holiday dinners. It was good that he was in charge of desserts, because he was never on time for dinner.
If his fondest love was the farm that he called home, his proudest accomplishment was his only son, Benjamin Thomas McMullin of Sikeston, Missouri.
He is also survived by sisters Patti (Steve) McPheeters and Peggy (David) Bird, four nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gerald Wilson McMullin.
A private service will be held at a later date.
