

John was the son of the late Lyman and Jewel Whitten. He was a lifelong farmer. With a love for hunting and fishing. John loved his family deeply and was greatly admired by his sons and grandchildren and great grandchildren
On March 6, 1965, he married Joy Sue Engram and was married for 54 years before her passing in 2019. He then married Janet Jackson in 2021.
He is survived by his two sons, Jason (Alexie) Whitten and John L Whitten Jr.; five grandchildren, Eli (Ellie) Whitten, Savannah (Hunter) Dean, Alex (Bethany) Whitten, Hannah Whitten and Olivia Whitten; five great grandchildren and four sisters, Rosetta Whitten, Cherie Whitten, Rita Jakes and Deene Ann Ford and one brother, Pete Whitten.
A private family visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the private family funeral service at 12:00 noon at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, MO, with Danny Kuykendall, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston, MO.
Pallbearers will be Cole Williams, Trey Wilson, Eli Whitten, Alex Whitten, Peter Whitten and Drew Dollar.
