Linda Lee Burns, 68 of Sikeston died June 15, 2011 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center. She was born on June 4, 1943 in Diehlstadt, MO to the late Thomas and Jewel Rogers Freeze. She attended the Miner Baptist Church where she was vice president of Ladys on Mission. She had been president of the Lady Elks Lodge #2319 in 2000. She was also a Girl Scout Leader from the mid 1970s to the early 1980s. She had been a cashier for Food Giant Stores in Sikeston. On February 7, 1964 in Sikeston, MO she married Thurman S. Burns Jr. who preceded her in death on June 17, 2008. She was also preceded in death by one sister.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Daniel Slavings of Dexter, MO; one granddaughter and her husband, Courtney and Skylar Travis of Dexter; her mother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth “Polly” Johnson Burns of Sikeston; three brothers, David Freeze of Red Bank, MS, Tommy Freeze of Hickman, KY and Ronnie Freeze of Clinton, KY; two sisters, Faye Duke of Bardwell, KY and Shirley Wright of Bardwell, KY and one special young lady, Emma Kay Pennington of Dexter.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 17, 2011 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at 11:00am in the Nunnelee Chapel with the Rev. Larry Williams pastor of the Mt. Pispah Baptist Church in New Madrid officiating. Pallbearers will be Daniel Slavings, Bobby Slavings, Robert Slavings, Shawn Slavings, Billy Joe McClain and Tim Cazee.
