He was born February 2, 1927 in Parma, MO. to the late Fred and Daisy Ross Petty.
On October 1, 1960 in Sikeston, MO. he married Virginia “Ginny” Harlow Petty who preceded him in death on September 23, 2020.
Lyman was a member of Morehouse First General Baptist Church in Morehouse, MO. He and his wife “Ginny” owned and operated Gas Lite Square in Sikeston, MO. from 1972 until retiring in 1990.
He is survived by one son, John Petty of Jacksonville, FL.; two step-sons Dennis (Jean) Bishop of Sikeston, MO. and Mark (Marianne) Hensley of Sikeston, MO.; one sister, Novella Parker of Pocahontas, AR.; thirteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one step-son, Ronnie Bishop; one step-daughter-in-law, Elva Bishop and one sister, Jean Bamaritto.
A private family funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, MO. Rev. Ronnie Stevens, pastor of Morehouse First General Baptist Church, officiating.
A private burial will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO. with military honors.
