He was born January 5, 1943, in Kennett, Missouri to Norma and Wesley Willingham. His mother died shortly after his birth and Philip was adopted by and became a member of his mother's sister's family, Howard and Verneal McGill.
He spent his young years in Miner Missouri where, under guidance of his father, he developed his fascination with the broad range of skills involved in developing and managing the family-owned business, Miner Feed Mill. After graduating from Sikeston High School in 1962 and Southeast Missouri State College in Cape Girardeau, he joined an international CPA firm in Kansas City, Missouri. He then embarked on a lifetime career in a variety of business enterprises.
He loved exploring the establishment and growth of new businesses, including the most recent, Cardinal Blinds and Shutters, which he started in partnership with his daughter Amy in St. Louis, Missouri. The fascination of dealing with the risks and rewards of personal business also led to his enjoyment of poker as a favorite pastime.
Survivors, include his wife of 40 years, Judy, whom he married in 1982, three daughters, Megan McGill-Knight of Sikeston, Missouri, Amy Mueller of Chesterfield, Missouri, and Mauri (Romer) Austria of Katy, Texas, two sons, Matt McGill and Mike (Jessica) McGill of Cape Girardeau, one stepson, Matt (Rhonda) Seabaugh of Symsonia, Kentucky, a step-daughter, Lisa Seabaugh of Cedar Hill, Missouri, two brothers, Maurice (Wanda) McGill and Stanley (Laurie) McGill of Garland Texas, 12 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nephews, nieces, members of his birth family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Verneal McGill and his sister, Hester McGill Doyle.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, MO. where funeral services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Jim Matthews, Pastor of Cape County Cowboy Church in Oak Ridge, MO., officiating.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston, MO.
