Rich Evans

Rick was the son of the late Landy and Bertia Evans. He was raised with a strong work ethic, a love for the outdoors, and a deep appreciation for family—values that remained with him throughout his life.

In 1970, Rick proudly volunteered to serve his country in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1971 after becoming disabled during his service. His dedication, perseverance, and strength were qualities that stayed with him throughout the rest of his life.

In 1972, Rick founded Rick Evans Landgrading, a land grading, excavating, and dozer business that he proudly owned and operated for more than 50 years. Through hard work, honesty, and dedication, he built not only a successful business but lasting friendships with the many people he served throughout the community. He took great pride in every job, and his reputation for quality work and dependability earned the trust and respect of countless customers and friends.

On November 17, 1984, Rick married the love of his life, Karen (Thomas) Evans. Together they shared 41 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another.

Above all else, Rick loved his family. Nothing made him happier than spending time with those he loved, especially his grandchildren, who lovingly knew him as "Pop Ricky." Being their Pop Ricky was one of his greatest joys. He never missed an opportunity to cheer on his grandchildren, celebrate their accomplishments, or simply enjoy being with them. They were the light of his life. Whether he was making them laugh, sharing stories, or simply enjoying time together, he treasured every moment spent with them.

When Rick wasn't working, you could almost always find him outdoors. He was an avid deer hunter who took tremendous pride in the sport. His home was filled with an impressive collection of trophy bucks, each one representing years of patience, dedication, and unforgettable memories in the woods.

Rick was also an expert fisherman, but crappie fishing held a special place in his heart. Whether fishing close to home or traveling to new lakes with family and friends, he found peace on the water and joy in sharing those experiences with the people he loved. Some of his greatest memories were made with a fishing pole in his hand and family or friends by his side.

Rick was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jason Evans; his parents, Landy and Bertia Evans; five sisters; three brothers; and his father-in-law, Dewey Thomas.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Karen (Thomas) Evans; his daughter, Kacie (Evans) Curry and husband, Zach Curry; his cherished granddaughters, Maybree Kate Curry (8), Keely Camille Curry (6), and Lynden Alysse Curry (4); and his grandson, Cameron Layne Curry, who is expected to arrive in October. Although Rick did not get the chance to hold Cameron in his arms, he already loved him deeply and looked forward with all his heart to becoming his Pop Ricky. Cameron was one of the greatest reasons Rick continued to fight, and his love and legacy will forever surround the grandson he so eagerly anticipated meeting.

Rick is also survived by his mother-in-law, Linda Thomas; his sister-in-law, Sheila Thomas; several beloved nieces and nephews; extended family members; and many lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.

Funeral services for Rick Evans will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, Missouri.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The service will be officiated by Curtis Carter.

Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston, MO.

Serving as pallbearers will be Zach Curry, Paul Young, David Barnett, Terry Burton, Jason Sandage, Jerry Dambach, and Brian Kennady.

Rick's greatest legacy wasn't the business he built, the trophy bucks on his walls, or the countless fish he caught—it was the love he gave his family. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father, and the world's best "Pop Ricky." His memory will live on in every sunrise from a deer stand, every cast across the water, and in the hearts of those who loved him most.

A life well lived. A family well loved. A legacy that will never be forgotten.
