Richard John Schmitt, 87, of Bertrand, died April 19, 2013, at the Miner Nursing Center. Born November 26, 1925, in St. Louis, to the late Edward and Charlotte Trickell Schmitt, he served in the US Navy, and had been employed as a supervisor for Southwestern Bell. On April 15, 1955, in St. Claire County, Illinois, he married Katherine Clemons, who preceded him in death on October 18, 2000.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Catherine Getz; and one grandson, Nathan Getz.
He is survived by one daughter, Theresa Schmitt of Bertrand; and one grandchild.
Services will full military honors were held April 24, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with the Rev. Kelley Grubbs, pastor of Murray Lane Baptist Church in Sikeston, officiating.
