
Sarah Katherine “Kay” York Curry, age 72, died at her home in Kansas City, MO on January 9, 2013. She was born February 15, 1940 to Alma Katherine Schaefer York of Sikeston, and the late Warren Allen York, on their farm about two miles southeast of Sikeston.
Kay was of the Catholic faith, and attended grades one thru eight at St. Francis Xavier school in Sikeston, and graduated from Sikeston High School in 1958. She was active in the Red Peppers organization and became a cheerleader. She was chosen Miss Sikeston in 1957, and was a queen of the American Legion Pageant in Poplar Bluff, MO. She moved from Sikeston to St. Louis and went to work for Trans World Airlines, and then to Kansas City, Mo where she worked for TWA and World Span, retiring in 2006, as a rate analyst specialist. While she worked for TWA, she was able to send her mother on many trips out of the country, and even took her around the world in 1973, after her father died. She was active with TWA on other sanctioned activities, including charity golf tournaments for the Kansas City Royals baseball team and the Kansas City Chiefs football teams. She has many friends in Kansas City, and family here in Sikeston that miss her very much.
Besides her mother, she is survived by one brother and sister in law, Rudolph Allen and Janice York of Harbor City, CA, By three sisters and one brother in law, Judy and John E. Harper of Sikeston, Sherry H. York Bohr of Hawaii and Sandra A. York of Sikeston. She is also survived by ten nieces and nephews, Jeffery A. York, Dana K. York Meyers and Kent Meyers, all of California; Mary K. Harper Lape and Ken Lape, Cheryl A. Harper Krebs, Julie E. Harper Conway and Michael Conway, all of Sikeston; Joseph D. Bohr, III of Cape Girardeau, Ashlee A. Bohr Daniel and Eric Daniel of Madison, AL, Tara K. Bohr of Hawaii, Nicholas A. and Tracy Bohr, and Michael Patrick Bohr of Winter Springs, FL. Twelve great nieces and nephews, and one great-great nephew also survive.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by one brother in-law, Joseph D. Bohr Jr, ; by her paternal grandparents, Clarence A. and Sadie Hollingsworth York and a step grandfather, David Allard, and maternal grandparents, Martin J. and Anna T. McBride Schaefer.
