Sharon Renae Medley Thatcher Schwartz, lovingly known to many family members and friends as “Missy,” passed away peacefully at her home in Sikeston, Missouri on March 9, 2026, at 3:16 p.m., at the age of 64, following complications from end-stage COPD. She was surrounded by the comfort of the home she grew up in and later raised her own children in; a place filled with many years of family memories.
Sharon was born on October 19, 1961, to James T. and Iva Scally.
Nothing meant more to Sharon than her family. She is survived by her husband, Karl Schwartz; her sons, Jason Thatcher and Zachary Thatcher (Jessica Hardy); and her beloved grandson, Nolan Hardy Thatcher, who affectionately called her “Grammy.” Nolan was a tremendous source of pride and joy in her life, and she treasured every moment she spent with him.
She is also survived by her brother, Truman (Pat) Medley of Sikeston, Missouri, and her sister, Rhonda Driskell of Nashville, Tennessee. Sharon leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews: Monica Burnett, Stacey (Richard) Diebold, Cletus (Michelle) Foster, Gene (Jennifer) Medley, Jessica (Dennis) Graviett, Roscoe (Arlene) Vaughan, Jennifer Medley, Kayla Medley, Sheila Medley, and Tara (Jeff) Prosser. She respected and treasured her friendship with her friend, Ron Thatcher. Her loyal and beloved dog, Minnie, also remained a constant and cherished companion.
Sharon found great joy in the simple blessings of life. She was an avid gardener who loved all types of flowers and houseplants. Her ability to make things grow went far beyond simply having a “green thumb”, she nurtured everything with patience and love. She especially enjoyed spending time outdoors, feeling the sunshine on her face, and sharing peaceful moments fishing with her brother.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, James T. and Iva Scally; her sisters, Evelyn Foster, Delores Gettings, and Alice Scally; her brother, Robert Medley; and her nephews, Barry Gettings, Billy Foster, and Michael Vaughan.
Sharon was of the Jehovah Witness faith and was loved by many of her brothers and sisters in the congregation. Her faith was an important part of her life and brought her comfort and friendship throughout the years.
Sharon will be remembered for her gentle heart, nurturing spirit, strong faith, and the love she shared so freely with family and friends. Her memory will live on in the gardens she planted, the meals she prepared, and the many lives she touched with kindness.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until time of the memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, MO.
