Tim was born on October 7, 1952, in Sikeston to the late Benjamin Franklin Chambers and Lucille Maxine (Newman) Chambers. He graduated from Sikeston Senior High School in 1971 and, shortly after, married his high school sweetheart, Charline Freeman, on January 11, 1972, in their hometown. Their union was a radiant reflection of lasting love, shared dreams, and steadfast devotion.
Tim was the founder and owner of the renowned clothing store Ben’s, named in honor of his beloved father. Later, in a second career that brought him great joy, Tim and Charline founded an antiques and folk art company called Missouri Plain Folk. Together, they crisscrossed the country buying and selling art and antiques—an adventure they both deeply cherished. Their shared passion for travel and art led to countless treasured memories and enduring friendships with people from all walks of life. During his distinguished career in antiques, Tim also published the preeminent book on antique game boards, The Art of the Game.
A devoted servant of Shady Acres Church of Christ, Tim walked in grace, led by a spirit of gentleness and divine compassion. His presence radiated God’s love, touching every soul he encountered with warmth that felt heaven-sent.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Lucille Chambers and his wife, Charline Chambers.
He is survived by his two sons: Zachary Tyler Chambers (49) and wife Katy of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Tyson Freeman Chambers (46) of St. Louis, Missouri; and his cherished grandchildren: Jinx Benjamin Chambers (15), Price Zachary Chambers (13), and Bobby Freeman Chambers (10). He is also survived by his loving sister, Linda Collette (Chambers) Hartzog, and her husband John Wiley Hartzog; his loyal brother, Robin Jerome Chambers, and his wife Carolyn (Kirby) Chambers; and his compassionate sister-in-law, Linda Jo (Freeman) Norton.
Tim was also blessed with many nieces and nephews, including:
Nephews – John Wiley Hartzog III (Krisie), Benjamin Park Hartzog (Crystal), Robin Jerome Chambers Jr., and David Andrew Norton.
Nieces – Carrie (Freeman) Young, Leslie Louise Freeman, Alexandria Jo (Norton) Stowe (Steve), Ashley Lynn (Chambers) Steward (JJ), and Erin Gray (Chambers) Alcorn (Benjamin).
Visitation and services will be held at a later date. More information will be shared once plans are finalized.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Tim’s honor to Shady Acres Church of Christ, a place Tim called home his entire life.
Tim leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and grace that will forever live in the hearts of those blessed to have known him. His gentle spirit and unwavering kindness were a gift to all, and his memory will continue to inspire and uplift.
