

Farmington – Vinita “Da” Eunice Voigt Kirk, formerly of Sikeston, passed away at 11:45am on April 24th, at the age of 100. She was born in Kirkwood, Mo on February 4, 1915, to the late Carl L. and Ella Nepper Voigt. Vinita was a 1938 graduate of the University of Missouri – Columbia, with a BS in Health and Physical Education. In 1938, she secretly married her college sweetheart, the late Charles L (Corky) Kirk of Sikeston. She then taught modern dance at Sophie Newcomb College (currently Tulane) in New Orleans for two years before returning to Sikeston.
During WWII, Vinita was a parachute rigger at Parks Air College in Sikeston. She was a homemaker and years later an owner/manager of the Del Rey Hotel in Sikeston, until the death of her husband in 1957. She began teaching P.E. for Sikeston Public Schools in 1958 and retired in 1978. Vinita was a charter member of Chapter HB, PEO in Sikeston, served as a past president, and in 2014 was honored as a 70 year member. Vinita was a 50+ year member of the First United Methodist Church of Sikeston and also a 50 year member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority at Mizzou.
Vinita is survived by: two daughters, Julie Film of Clovis, CA and Joanie Rauls and husband Gary of Farmington, MO, formerly of Sikeston; two grandchildren, Lloyd Stoner(and wife Robin) of Sikeston, Julie Sheets (and husband Jay) of Farmington; four great-grandsons, Grant and Gavin Stoner of Sikeston and Garrett and Colton Sheets of Farmington; one sister-in-law, Gwen Lane of Nashville, TN; two nieces and two nephews.
Vinita was preceded in death by her husband Charles L. Kirk of Sikeston; her parents Ella and Carl Voigt of Kirkwood, MO; one sister Virginia and her husband Charles Witte of Manchester, MO; one son-in-law, Burt Film of Clovis, CA.
A processional will begin from Nunnelee Funeral Chapel to a graveside service at the Garden of Memories Cemetery on West Murray Lane in Sikeston, MO at 2pm, Monday April 27th. Pastor Robert Webb of the Presbyterian Hospice of Farmington will officiate.
