Virginia Doris Jones

Born on November 3, 1933, to Harry and Mildred Adams in Calloway County, Kentucky, Doris was raised with a deep faith, a strong work ethic, and an unwavering commitment to family and serving others. She graduated from Kirksey High School, where she was a cheerleader and met her future husband, Pat E. Jones.

On Christmas Day in 1954, she married the love of her life, Pat, in Corinth, Mississippi. Together they shared more than 70 years of marriage, building a family rooted in faith, love, and devotion. Their home in Sikeston became a place where everyone knew they would be welcomed, well fed, and treated like family, with popcorn always popping and a bowl of Hershey's Kisses never far away.

Doris was first and foremost devoted to her family. She is survived by her three children: Steve (Nancy) Jones of San Antonio, Texas; Carole (Mark) Adams of Columbia, Missouri; and Kathy (Andrew) French of Bertrand, Missouri. She also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren: Brian (Asha) Adams, Rob (Beth Ann) Adams, Eric (Callyn) Jones, Caitlin (Patrick) Maier, and Spencer Adams; six treasured great-grandchildren: Camdyn, Eva, Carter, Zane, Alora, and Wes; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were blessed by her love.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Pat E. Jones; her parents, Harry and Mildred Adams; her precious granddaughter, Catherine Michelle Adams; and her brother, Bob Adams.

If there was one thing Doris believed, it was that love was something you did. She spent her 92 years serving others with quiet humility, a welcoming heart, and hands that were rarely still. Whether she was preparing a meal for a friend, caring for someone in need, welcoming another grandchild through the front door, or simply offering encouragement, Doris made everyone around her feel loved. Her life was not defined by recognition or accolades, but by countless ordinary acts of extraordinary kindness.

For more than 60 years, Doris attended First United Methodist Church in Sikeston, where she joyfully served through the Methodist Women's Club and church bazaars. Many eagerly anticipated her famous chicken salad but even more appreciated the kindness and faithfulness she brought to everything she did.

Her kitchen was the heart of her home and always filled with a flurry of activity as she cooked her homemade biscuits and gravy, crispy hush puppies, sweet corn, and oven fried chicken. She found her greatest joy not in being served, but in serving others.

Doris worked as a teacher's aide at Lee Hunter School before continuing her career at Lanier Jewelers and later Harris Pharmacy, where she remained until retirement.

Outside of caring for family and friends, Doris enjoyed camping, playing Canasta with her Canasta Club, and cheering passionately for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Kentucky Wildcats, and the Missouri Tigers. She also believed every occasion was made better with a touch of lipstick and a perfectly curled hairstyle. Even while caring for everyone around her, Doris carried herself with quiet elegance and just the right amount of spunk.

Those fortunate enough to know Doris witnessed a rare kind of grace. She never asked for attention. She rarely put herself first. She taught her family that the greatest measure of a life is not found in accomplishments but in compassion, generosity, and faith. Her influence lives on in every meal shared around a family table, every quiet act of kindness, and every life she touched.

While her family will miss her beyond words, they find comfort in knowing she is once again beside Pat, the love of her life, after more than 70 years together. What a joyful reunion that must have been.

Those who were blessed to love Doris find peace in knowing that the words she spent a lifetime living are now the words that welcomed her home.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 09, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 5:00 p.m. at Christ Church, 723 Allen Blvd, Sikeston, MO 63801 with Danny Kuykendall, pastor of Christ Church, officiating.

A family private interment will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, in the Goshen United Methodist Church Cemetery in Stella, KY.
