

Dennis was the son of the late Virginia and Lyman Petty.
Throughout his life, Dennis was known as a steady, hard-working man who met each day with quiet determination and pride in doing things the right way. Trained by experience and guided by perseverance, he spent his working years as a construction worker and in masonry work, earning respect as a man of many talents. In every task, large or small, his commitment to a job well done reflected the strength of his character.
His presence offered a sense of kindness and care that will be remembered by those who knew him best.
Dennis is survived by his wife of the home, Jean Bishop; his children, Kenneth Lee Bishop of Sikeston, MO, Pamela A Bishop of St. Louis, MO, Terry (Randy) Sczapa of Sikeston, MO, Bud (Kim) Sypher of Florida, Donald (Brooke) Sypher of South Carolina, and Michael (Chris) Sypher of Florida; his brother, Mark (Marianne) Hensley of Sikeston, MO; his aunt, Mary “Cindy” Childers, plus several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by twenty-five grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his son, Volney Kim Bishop, his brother, Ronald Bishop, and his sister-in-law, Elva Bishop.
Dennis’ life was marked by work worth respecting and a heart that made room for others. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Visitation will be held at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, MO on Saturday July 18, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
