

Wanda L. Newton, age 88, formerly of Morehouse, died May 6, 2015, at the Bertrand Nursing Center. Born February 19, 1927, in Morehouse, to the late Elmer Lee and Vivian Irene Patton Crozier, she served as a foster grandparent for Morehouse Elementary School for many years, and was a member of the Morehouse General Baptist Church. On August 27, 1943, in Charleston, she married Emery Darrell Newton, who preceded her in death on September 4, 1987.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Sonny Bryant of Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Stephanie Grubbs of Morehouse, Steven Newton of Dexter, Shawnta Watson of Haughton, La., Sam Bryant of Adamsville, Tenn. and Sara Bryant of Austin, Tex.; and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Darrell Newton.
Visitation is scheduled from 5:30-8 p.m. on Monday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, in the Nunnelee Chapel, with Randy Thomas, pastor of the Morehouse General Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
