Zelma Mae DeWitt, 92, of Sikeston, passed away February 8, 2020 at the Miner Nursing Center. She was born July 9, 1927 in the Big Opening community to the late James “Howard” and Emma Tate DeWitt. She graduated from Matthews High School in 1947. She is survived by two sisters, OmaLeane DeWitt Nelson and Berneda J DeWitt Greene, both of Sikeston; 9 nieces and nephews; 14 great nieces and nephews; and many great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one infant sister, Margie Martha DeWitt; two brothers, Millard DeWitt and Amos DeWitt; and one nephew, Marty Nelson. She was a former member of the Little Vine and North Acres General Baptist Churches. She taught at York School for two years before working at Woolworths, Bank of Sikeston, Lieble & Crumpecker, Malone & Hyde before retiring from the Fleming Company in 1992. Visitation will be held on Tuesday Feb 11, 2020 at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, MO. from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. with Bro. Joe McCullough of Murray Lane Baptist Church,officiating. Burial will follow at the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Chip Greene, Johnathan DeWitt Clayton, Mike DeWitt, Blake DeWitt, Scott Hepler and Carl Kinnison.

Words cannot express the sorrow and sadness we feel at the loss of our wonderful Aunt Zelma. Please know that my family and I are thinking of all of our Missouri relatives. Our most tender condolences to all of our family there.
The sun has set on an amazingly long and happy life.
We will be unable to attend her celebration of life, but please know that all of the family will be in our hearts and prayers.
