

Aaron Ruvinsky, 102, passed peacefully in Clermont, Florida, on July 1, 2026. He was born on January 22, 1924 to William and Jennie Ruvinsky in Newark, New Jersey. He grew up in Brooklyn and Queens, New York, with two older sisters, Emily and Florence. In high school, Aaron began playing the clarinet, which became a lifelong passion.
He attended Brooklyn College before enlisting to serve during World War II. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant and was based in British Columbia, Canada as a weather forecaster after serving in an Army Air Corps base band in North Carolina. His meteorology training was in a military program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After the war, he continued his education at New York University achieving a bachelor’s degree.
Aaron married his beloved wife, Nelida (Muselevicius) Ruvinsky, on June 17, 1951, and they celebrated 65 years together before Nelida passed away in 2016. They raised two sons in Bowie, Maryland, where Aaron worked for the Washington Star newspaper as an editor in the lifestyle sections. In his free time, he played in community orchestras and bands and was active in his local community, including as the President for his local B’nai Brith chapter. Aaron also loved tennis and swimming. Aaron and Nelida were members of Temple Solel in Bowie, Maryland.
After his retirement, he volunteered his time to charity, including Meals For Wheels and the Kennedy Center. In addition, he loved spending time with his family. Throughout his entire life, he remained dedicated to his interests in tennis, swimming, and music. Even when he celebrated his centennial, he still enjoyed swimming at the YMCA and attending symphony concerts, and was always ready with a smile and a joke. His favorite food was vanilla ice cream.
He is survived by his children, William (Stephanie) Ruvinsky and Leonard (Marian) Ruvinsky; his grandchildren, Jason, Alexander (Meghan), Alyssa (Alexander), Rachel (Alex), and Rebecca (Viral); and one great-grandchild, Marliese.
A funeral service will be held on July 5, 2026, at Garden of Remembrance Memorial Park in Clarksburg, Maryland at 12:30 p.m.
