Alice Yvonne (Manning ) Lipscomb, age 69, passed peacefully in the arms of her loving husband, James I Lipscomb, Jr on September 14th, 2018. Friends and family, who handed her gratefully to Jesus following an extended battle with cancer, surrounded her.
Born May 15th, 1949, in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania to Charles Edward, and Gretta Marie (Day) Manning, a few years later she became a big sister to Pamela Jo Manning, and then again to Cameron Alan Manning. She attended Huntingdon Area High School, and graduated with lifelong friends in 1967. She left Huntingdon to attend Freedman’s Nursing School in Washington, DC. Eventually, Alice found her call to serve as a Professional Administrative Assistant. Following many exciting employment experiences, at the State Department, DC METRO, and the Army Corps of Engineers, and others, she settled into the job she loved most assisting fellow Post Office workers at the American Postal Workers Union (APWU).
In November of 1972, she embarked on a new adventure by becoming a mother to Geoffrey. He was the light of her life. In 1981, her world got even bigger when she met, and eventually married, her husband James and they blended their families. She not only found her soul mate, but she gained 4 more children, Kevin, Keesha, Ernest, and Brian. In following years, her family grew to include grandchildren (Joshua, Justin, Jonah, Ashlee, Rashad, Devin, Elijah, Taliyah, Jaylen, Aliyah, Victoria, Eli, Tony, and Dede) and great grandchildren (Andrew, Alantis, Nyasiah, Anyiah, Anastasia, Malaysia, and Amen’Ra). Family was everything to Alice.
Alice will be especially remembered for her love of Jazz music, books, and her never-ending ability to shop. She never met a pair of shoes she didn’t like! Besides being a loyal friend to her humans, Alice found loving companionship with her dog, Toby, who comforted her until the end.
Her father, Charles, and her sister, Pamela (Manning) Lunsford, preceded Alice in death.
