Anton “Tony” Wasef was born on May 23, 1948 in Jerusalem. When he reached adulthood he moved to Greece to study engineering and met his soon to be wife, Ioanna. They wed in 1975 and shortly thereafter, they moved to the United States to be with the rest of his family. Tony’s work history included being the chief engineer for our well-known local newspaper, The Washington Post, for over 30 years and then working for the University of Maryland for 10 years before retiring.
Tony and his wife settled into the Silver Spring area and have been loyal members of St. Constantine and Helen since 1979 where he made lifelong bonds and friendships. Tony was known for his love of fishing, hunting and socializing with friends. He will be dearly missed by all those who were lucky enough to meet him.
Tony is survived by his devoted wife, Ioanna; his daughter, Betty Athanasia Wasef (Jonathan Publicover); two grandkids (who he loved spending time with and sneaking cookies to!), Jonathan and Thomas; two sisters, Foumia Sakhleh and Sumaya Mukhar; one brother, Sami (Magda)Wassef; his nieces, Vivian, Eva, and Yvette; and nephews’, Ghassan, Elia and Ferdinand. He is predeceased by his parents Shoukri and Badia Wassef, brother Joseph Wassef, Niece, Suzanne Sakhleh.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 14 at St. Constantine and Helen (701 Norwood Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20905).
