Antonio, “Tony,” L. DeCarlo, 83, of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2018. Tony was born on April 7, 1935 in Washington, DC. Along with his older brother, Frank DeCarlo (deceased), and sister, Marie Antoinette (Toni) Welsh, they were first generation Italian immigrants of Nicolangelo and Carmina De Carlo (both deceased).
At an early age, Tony had a love for working on cars, as well as racing them up and down the streets of the DMV area. He quickly turned his passion for cars into a lifelong career, including building a race car that won every race it ran. Tony worked at Curtis Chevrolet, formally Hick’s Chevrolet, until September, 1979, where he along with his wife and son Tony, opened Tony’s Garage Inc. in Burtonsville, Maryland. He worked at “the shop” until he passed away. As the years went on, Tony become the go to mechanic for repairing every day cars and classic corvettes.
Tony met his lovely wife, Henrietta Bayliss DeCarlo, at a young age. After a four year courtship, they were married and have been married for 59 years. He is survived by their five children; Teresa, Tony, Kathleen, Jimmy, and Pamela, eight grandchildren: Jennifer, Christopher, Stephanie, Stephen, Nicky, Richard, Melissa, and Emily, two great-grandchildren; Liam and Maggie, and his two four legged babies, Bailey and Maxx.
