Arlene Davis Burgess, affectionately known by her family and friends as “Boo Boo,” was born on April 28, 1963, in Washington, D.C., to her loving parents, the late Leroy Holmes and Marge “Margie” Ware. She was raised in Washington, D.C., where she spent her early years surrounded by family and friends who cherished her warm heart and joyful spirit.
Arlene was educated in the D.C. Public Schools and Prince George’s County Public Schools System, where she built lifelong friendships and developed the caring nature that would define her life. Over the years, she worked in various positions before finding her true calling as a childcare provider. She had a remarkable gift for nurturing others—treating every child in her care as one of her own—and was known for her beauty, compassion, patience, and love. Arlene was known as the “fun aunt.” Spontaneously, she may throw a cookout or plan a trip for the kids, everyone of whom felt special and enjoyed her exciting energy. Boo Boo had a God given natural talent in the field of cosmetology, baking, and crafting.
In her adulthood, Arlene accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a devoted member of Peoples Community Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. Her faith guided her daily life, and she found joy and strength through worship and fellowship with her church family until she no longer was able to attend services in person.
Arlene was united in marriage to Frederick Burgess; they shared a life filled with love and devotion. She was a proud and loving mother to Frederick J. Davis, Pierre D. Davis, Terrance Johnson, the late Diamond M. J. Burgess, Kymia Burgess, and Tynia Burgess. Her love was extended to her precious grandchildren—Jahara Pierre, Jolie Pierre-Davis, Jenisis Pierre-Davis, and Journée Pierre-Davis—who brought immense joy and laughter into her life. She took great pride in “spoiling” her kids/grandkids.
She leaves behind to cherish her precious memories her husband, children, grandchildren and her beloved Mother Marge “Margie” Ware , sisters, Kim Davis (Calvin Rowe, Jr.), Donna M. Powell, and Debra L. Powell-Smith (Larry Smith); her beloved Aunt Lelia Hines; Uncle James Howell II and dear friends Shirley Buckner, Michelle Covington, and Terri Bates; and a host of nieces, nephews, Great nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who will remember her kindness.
Arlene’s life was a testament to faith, family, and love. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, her generous heart, and the way she made everyone feel cared for and though she has departed from this earthly life her spirit will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
