A beautiful person who left us too soon.  

Dear Family,
Ashley was my childhood friend. I haven't spoken to her in so many years due to our lives going in different paths but I always thought of her fondly. There was something so perfect about her. It's hard to describe but when I think of her she was just the brightest star. I wanted to find her and when I did an internet search her obituary came up and I am so very sad to learn of what happened.  I will always cherish the memory of coming over to her house and watching the movie Grease as well as laughing together and being her friend at school. These memories I will treasure always.

For Ashley  &  family.  Several years ago I had the pleasure of meeting this beautiful young woman who became one of my favorite clients/friend at Jolie the day spa. I always looked forward to seeing her & sharing memories of  events in her life, when she & Josh got engaged, their wedding, & both pregnancies. She always had a glow about her & we shared life’s experiences in conversation. She helped me through the pain of losing my brother to brain cancer. She was always in good spirits & had a glow around her even through her own health obstacles. I like to think of her as an angel looking over her beautiful family. She will be forever missed. I worked on the other end of transactions with Ashley for the better part of the last decade.  I was a late arriver to my current career and she was very patient and kind as I learned the ropes.  Though I never met her face to face even the slightest interaction with her would always brighten my day and leave me in a little better place than I was before.  Obviously very bright, she embodied an approach where helping and teaching others was the best way to go.  

  A week or two ago when she was no longer copied on emails my heart  sank and I knew the inevitable had likely arrived.  Her time here was way too short but I’m certain the brightness that was her life will never dim .  Among her many legacies is the huge power of kindness and understanding that she brought to our crazy working world.  

Godspeed my friend you were simply the best!

I first met Ashley when Jack was a baby and I was one of the directors at The Children in the Shoe.  Jack won me over immediately with his huge smile and after getting to know both Ashley and Josh, I understood why he always had that beautiful smile on his face - it was because of his amazing and loving parents. When Ashley let us know she was pregnant again, we couldn’t wait to meet Sydney, and sure enough, she had that beautiful smile too. It was an honor to have been part of their lives and to watch them grow. And it was a pleasure chatting with Ashley every afternoon at pick up. 
When my sister and co-Director at The Shoe unexpectedly sustained a brain injury and later passed away, the love and support I felt from Ashley brought me strength and gave me hope. I send that same love and support back to Josh, Jack, and Sydney. My heart aches for you and the rest of Ashley’s loved ones. May the memories you made together bring you some peace now and going forward. Much love from me and my family to Ashley’s family and friends. 

Dear Family, 

I had the pleasure of teaching YOGA to Jack and Sydney.  I am a teacher at the Children in the Shoe childcare center where Sydney and Jack attended in Bethesda. During pick up times from school Ashley and I would share briefs stories about the children. She was always such  happy and pleasant woman and I  really enjoyed our talks.  We lost our  infant son at 12 days old.  Due to complications I had with fibroids in 2011. I had fibroid surgery and still we could not conceive. The Mahan's and 39 other  Shoe parents raised money so that my Husband and I could undergo fertility treatments! Our son Evan is now 4 years old! He has attended the Shoe since he was a baby. This goes to show the amazing love, empathy  compassion Ashley extends to all! We are so blessed beyond words to have known a woman who literally changed our life.  We extend our heart felt condolences. We pray that GOD will continue to give you all strength each day.

I retired last year from a 40 year commercial banking career.  Over the past decade, I had the pleasure to work with Ashley.  She was so knowledgeable, helpful, and efficient - she made my job so much easier as a result.  Plus she was always so pleasant and enjoyable to talk with.  She was a warrior when it came to fighting cancer, with dignity and grace.  My deepest condolences to her family.

Dear Family,

Words cannot express how sad I was to hear about Ashley’s passing.  I feel like it was just yesterday we were celebrating Thanksgiving and going on that wonderful cruise.  Although I haven’t seen her in a while, I was overjoyed to see what an amazing life she created.  She will forever be missed and in my heart.

Dear Family,

I am so terribly sorry to hear about  the passing of Ashley.  Scott and I have so many great memories of spending time with her and the family during Thanksgiving and at Kings Dominion.  May her memory be a blessing!
