Beatrice Phyllis Cooper Weidenfeld, age 99, passed away Wednesday morning in Rockville, MD. Born in Stoughton, MA in 1918 of Russian immigrant parents Esther and Charlie Kuperstein, she grew up in Charlestown, MA, with her two brothers Milton (Jean, of blessed memory) and Joseph (Frances). She married Samuel D. Weidenfeld in 1940 and moved her entire family to Akron, Ohio. She and Sam were creative entrepreneurs whose hard work and imagination enabled them to live the American Dream in post-war Ohio. She and Sam relocated to Florida in the 1970s and after his passing in 1994, she eventually moved to Maryland to be near her children, Edward Weidenfeld, Marjorie Buckholtz, and their families.
Bea's intelligence, wit, and charming personality won her many friends and admirers. Her wisdom, kindness, and generosity always made her an essential part of family discussions and decision-making. She will be deeply missed by her children, Edward (Sheila) and Marjorie (Neil) and her grandchildren, Alison Buckholtz (Scott Moran), Rabbi Charlie Buckholtz (Sara Sherbill), Professor Joshua Buckholtz (Ashley), Hillary Buckholtz (Bill Kilby), Nicholas Weidenfeld (Amantha Walden), and Daniel Weidenfeld (Nicole Flynn). She believed that she was especially blessed to know and be known by her great-grandchildren, Ethan and Esther Moran, Leo and Natasha Buckholtz, Rafael Buckholtz, and Maxwell Weidenfeld. The family is forever grateful to Bea's devoted and loving caregivers, Sarah Nantongo, Assi Hawkins, and Fatou Singelah, who provided unparalleled care and companionship They surpassed all expectations. Funeral Arrangements are through Hines Rinaldi. Graveside services will be held at Judean Gardens, Olney, MD at 2:30 pm on Friday, May 18, 2018, with shiva immediately following at the Buckholtz home in Potomac. MD. Donations in her memory may be sent to JSSA Hospice care, which offered tremendous comfort.
