On July 25, 2024, Beneva Louise Mondor of Brookville MD, formerly of Silver Spring MD, passed away peacefully at the age of 101. Beneva was born in 1923 to parents Eva and Peter Beno Schulte in St. Paul MN. In 1947 she married Raymond Joseph Mondor, and together they raised seven children. He preceded her in death in 1980. In 1998 she married Roland Sorensen, who preceded her in death in 2003. She is survived by six children and their spouses, Christine (Mondor) and Steven Feher, Raymond Mondor, Michele (Mondor) Hayes, Marguerite (Mondor) Noga, Paul and Marion (Burgin) Mondor, and Mark Mondor and Joyce McNemar, as well as by her daughter-in-law and her husband, Karen (Mondor) and Gary Schlueter. Beneva was preceded in death in 1993 by her son Alan Mondor, in 2018 by her son-in-law Gerald Hayes, and in 2020 by her son-in-law John Thomas Noga.
Beneva also is survived by 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Kenneth Feher, Brian and Jillian (Baker) Feher, Daniel and Kimberly (Zanders) Feher, Lawrence and Elmer (Sanchez) Hayes, Jennifer (Hayes) and Ryan White, Christopher Hayes, Ahren and Sinead (Dinkel) Noga, Carianne Noga, Damien Noga, Rudolph and Hayley (Mickelson) Burgin, Stefanie (Mondor) and Michael Evans, and Kelly (Mondor) and Bryce Sheppard. Finally, she is survived by 12 great-grandchildren Kaelynn Feher, Colby Feher, Bradley Feher, Emily Feher, Edward Sweet, Alicia Feher, Samantha Feher, Lillian White, Sienna Noga, Eva Noga, Caleb Burgin, and Cameron Evans.
Beneva enjoyed a long and full life, traveled extensively, and was a gifted musician with a wonderful voice who was known to break out in song whenever the occasion moved her. A devoted Catholic, she sang in the church choir, as well as the Sweet Adelines barbershop singing group, for several decades. In 1984, she started an annual tradition of gathering in Bethany Beach DE for Family Beach Week, which lasted through 2019 but then was disrupted by the Covid pandemic. She was involved in a variety of social groups and greatly enjoyed being in the company of her many descendants, especially babies! She was an avid gamer who enjoyed playing bridge and mah jongg, solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and other similar, recreational pursuits. She even taught mah jongg to several of her grandchildren, who still enjoy playing on occasion. She was a very special and loving person who will be missed very much by all who knew her.
