Carolyn Sims, 75, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2026. She was born on September 15, 1950 in Chesterfield, South Carolina. She had one son, Eric (Neeka) Cawthorne and three grandsons, Ian, Evan and Aiden Cawthorne.
Raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Carolyn carried with her a lasting connection to the place that shaped her early years. She graduated from Eastern High School in Baltimore, MD, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life grounded in steady purpose and deep appreciation for the people and community around her. Later relocated to Oxon Hill, MD and worked as an Executive Assistant with MCI Telecommunications. At the time of her passing, her current residence was in College Park, MD.
Carolyn was the youngest of seven children born to John and Vera Melton. Within that family circle, she held a cherished place—one defined by enduring bonds, shared history, and the quiet strength that comes from being part of something larger than oneself.
In her daily life, Carolyn found genuine enjoyment in simple, meaningful pleasures: shopping, going to and watching movies, and spending time with friends and family. These interests reflected a warm attentiveness to life’s moments and a sincere devotion to the relationships that mattered most.
Carolyn is survived by her son, Eric Cawthorne, her daughter-in-law, Neeka Cawthorne and her grandsons: Ian, Evan and Aiden Cawthorne. She is also survived by her siblings: brother Elder William Franklin Melton, sister in-law Juanita Melton, brother Thomas Melton, sister-in-law Sherry Melton, and brother Gene Melton, sister-in-law Karen Melton, as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
