Biography

Chung Leung Lee, a devoted husband and father, gourmet chef and foodie, sports lover and stylish dresser passed away on January 12, 2020 in Silver Spring, MD.

Chung was born to King Lee and Lim Lin Xin on July 29, 1942 in the Xinhui District of Guangdong, China. At the age of 10, Chung went to live with his older sister, Mei Yao Li, in the city to attend school. Chung enjoyed his childhood with his nephew and nieces.
In the early 1960’s, Chung moved to Hong Kong after high school, where he attended community college and studied accounting. While attending college in Hong Kong, Chung met Yuen Sim Yee. The two became friends and would later be married.

After graduating from junior college, Chung attended culinary school in Hong Kong, specializing in roast duck and roast pig – two celebrated Chinese dishes. It would not be long before Chung became a masterful chef.

In 1969, Chung married his college sweetheart, Yuen, and within 6 months, moved to Washington, DC to join Yuen’s family. Shortly thereafter, Chung and Yuen started a family and Hinwing and Yolanda were born.

Chung continued his career as a chef in the US and eventually owned his own businesses.

The most important thing in life to Chung was his Family. He devoted his life to providing for his family and ensuring that his children were able have an easier life than he did growing up. He also served as a father figure to his 4 nieces and nephew in Xinhui. During retirement, Chung would spend a couple of months each year in China with his sister and family.

Chung loved to cook gourmet meals for his family as much as he loved dining out. Some of his favorite foods were lobster and steaks (cooked medium rare of course). Chung was an avid lover of sports. He loved to watch soccer, football and basketball and was a devoted fan of the Washington Redskins.

Chung is survived by his wife - Yuen Sim Lee, son - Hinwing Lee (Aby), daughter Yolanda Lee, sister – Mei Yao Li, Sister-in-Law – Yuen Kim Yee, Brother-in-law – Kimse Yee (Nancy), Niece – DeZhuang He (Wilson), Nieces – DeXing He, DeHuan He (Bill), DeMing He, Nephew – DeYi He, grand-niece – Yating Yang (Ming), grand-nephew – Brendon Leung and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.
