
Clark E. Garner of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on January 7, 2023, husband of Beatrice E. Garner of 66 years, and loving father of Andrea (Malcolm) Mallett of Gatesville, TX and Marilyn (Eric) Brown of Ellicott City, MD; He is also survived by three grandsons, Michael (Kristen) Mallett, Marcus Mallett and Cullen Brown and two great grandsons. Thomas and Wesley Mallett, two nieces, Linda Garner Poehlman (John), Cheryl Kasznay Dunbar, and five nephews, Allen Garner (Beth), Gary Garner (Ruth), Brian Garner, Andrew Kasznay III (Sue) and Douglas Kasznay (Kymbra). He was preceded in death by his parents, George D. and Iris Garner and his brother, George B. Garner.
Clark was an International Farm Youth Exchange (IFYE) delegate to Ecuador, while attending the orientation program in Washington, DC, he met Bea, who was also an IFYE.
He earned degrees from the Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, MO and the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS. He taught at a Jr. High School and also worked in interior design. In 1961, he joined the faculty of the College of Human Ecology, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. He instructed interior design and drawing, to students as well as trainings in home design with Cooperative Extension (4-H). He retired Professor Emeritus in 1991.
Clark served in the Army, in the 4" Armored Division, Intelligence section at Fort Hood, TX, 1955-57.
He had many interests including cars, plants, gardening, flower arranging, interior design and arranging displays. He was a founding member of the Spencer, NY Historical Society, volunteered as an ambulance
driver for the Spencer, NY ambulance service and an instructor for 4-H projects.
He was a member and an elder, of Colesville Presbyterian Church, Maryland Mayflower Society and
Cornell Association of Professors Emeriti, Arts Council at Riderwood.
Celebration of Life will be held on Monday January 23, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the Chapel at Riderwood Village,3140 Gracefield RD, Silver Spring, MD 20904.
