Dear Sara, and family, I share your loss.  Dave and I had been friends for over 75 years, first meeting at the Hayden Planetarium's Junior Astronomy club, riding the subway together, alone at 8 or 9 years of age. We didn't see the two of you very often, but know that he is missed.

 Dave was such a kind person. We all share in in your sorrow. The others have expressed their memories of Dave  from NASA and done it very well. 

But I do want to thank you for sharing your memories of Dave at the ZOOM session. I learned much from you and I know Dave would have been pleased with your  thoughtful, wonderfully natural and spontaneous recollections. You gave us all a  gift to help remember David .

Joanne and I look forward to continuing our conversations with you when we all return to a more normal existence and can share our thoughts in person.

My deepest condolences on this Father's Day on the passing of your  husband and father. Ruth 's beautiful character and love of life is a testimony to his strength, grace and guidance as she grew up near me in Wheaton and then went on to have children of her own. Sara was his partner in this, and their love was apparent. I am sorry for  the loss of such a wonderful, supportive caring role model and friend. I have heard he stood strong when needed and danced joyfully when the time came to celebrate, always taking  care  of his family and friends. I hope his memory remains a blessing for you daily and for all those whose lives he touched.

I am very sorry to hear of Dave’s passing and offer my sincere condolences to Sara and the family.

I had the pleasure of working with Dave at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center starting in the late 1970s and continued working with him until his retirement from NASA Headquarters many years latter.  We tackled many challenges together and it was my assessment that he knew how to expertly handle just about anything in the NASA Space Communications business enterprise.

Even more important, Dave was great to work with and a wonderful person who always kept the people part of the job in the forefront of his approach.  As Bill Watson and Jim Costrell have noted, he was always generous with his time and expertise to help others.  Especially so in mentoring the next generation of NASA engineers such as myself. Dave really made a difference with the mission and the people!

At NASA it is a custom to wish “God Speed” to our family members who go off on space adventures.  God Speed Dave.  May you Rest In Peace!

Sara – Helen and I express our deepest condolences for you and the family.  We have many fond recollections of our get togethers with you and the Shark, the least of which is that seaside restaurant in Dubrovnik.  Bill Watson captured my thoughts perfectly about his and my interactions with Dave at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.  And these traits also translated to Dave’s days at NASA Headquarters with many of his NASA and international friends and colleagues.  At our next NASA office retiree luncheon we’ll have a toast or two or three to our good friend David.  And to the “young lady in the red sweater” Helen and I look forward to many more get togethers. 

I came to work for Dave in 1994. I saw him successfully tackle many technical and political issues within NASA all with an objective analysis and a sense of humor. He was one of the best supervisors, if not the best, I’ve worked for. In fact, he made you feel you were working with him, not for him. 

From Apollo to TDRSS Dave’s many contributions will forever be part of our space communication legacy.  Rest In Peace Dave.

I just wanted to stop by and let you know I'm thinking of all of you at this difficult time.  Ruth was one of my best high school friends (I was Amy House back then!) and I continue to keep in touch with her on Facebook now.  I'm so sorry for your loss but I know that your family is so strong together, that you will be able to find peace in the memories you have.  Take care and find comfort in knowing there are many out here who keep you close in thoughts and prayers.

As a new hire at Goddard in 1974, I recall Dave's sharp wit and incredibly generous willingness to engage in conversation and helpful insights into how things work at NASA.  Remembering warm humor and frank openness.

I offer my prayers to all of you-loving wife, son, daughter, son-in-law, granddaughters and all family. Mr. Harris provided such wonderful memories for me growing up with Ruth as my best friend. I remember hearing “kiddo” often. His talents and knowledge were always something he willingly shared.  From photography, gardening, astronomy, folk music, and Judaism to name a few topics.  He lead a great life and raised a wonderful family with Mrs. Harris.  My heart ❤️ goes out to you all. Peace to all.
