

David Newsome was born in Sheffield, England on March 17, 1936, to Walter and Elsie Newsome. He was an only child.
An alumnus of the University of Sheffield, he graduated with a Doctorate in Medicine and went on to practice Medicine in London, England. David then held the position of Ship Physician in the British Royal Navy.
He later worked at the American Hospital in Paris, France. Leaving France, David traveled to the Congo, working for an American company. He went to Italy where he studied at the Università di Bologna earning the Doctorate in Surgery, before setting off for the United States to pursue a surgical residency in Buffalo, New York. He then moved to Washington, D.C. in 1972 he completed his residency at the Washington Hospital Center, in Washington, DC.
Having served the community for over 30 years, Dr. Newsome retired from the Washington Hospital Center as a Senior Attending Surgeon, Emeritus and recipient of the Gold-Headed Cane Award.
Dr. Newsome was a caring and exceptionally devoted physician, known for his insistence on the very best care for his patients from nursing staff.
David was an educated and intelligent man with a love of books. From time to time, he would remark, that having spent his life accumulating knowledge, he had to admit he knew little.
His main hobbies were sailing single-handedly, photography, travel, solving crossword puzzles, and visiting art exhibitions. He had that British sense of humor which he used to amuse those he cared about most.
David was a devoted father and husband. A compassionate man. He loved his son Fabian Michael, his only child, and was very proud of the lad’s early accomplishments.
Dr. Newsome has left to mourn, his beloved Camille, son Fabian Michael, Mara, his cousin, Diana, and a host of friends.
