David Pollack (1934–2026)
David Pollack was born in New London, Connecticut, the first child of Lillian and Louis Pollack. He grew up in a lively, close-knit extended family; his parents owned two houses by the beach and ran a boarding house, with both sets of grandparents, several uncles, and many cousins living together or nearby. Summers by the ocean instilled in him a lifelong love of the water.
When David was 13, the family moved to Miami, again settling near the shore. He graduated from Miami Senior High in 1951 and earned an Architectural Engineering degree from the University of Miami in 1955. The day after graduation, he drove to Washington, D.C., to begin working at the U.S. Patent Office. While working full-time, he attended George Washington University Law School at night, earning his law degree and passing the bar.
David met Ruth Alice "Rincy" Levy through a mutual friend; their first date was at the racetrack. They married in November 1959 and began their life together near the Iwo Jima Memorial. David went on to join a small private intellectual property law firm, where he spent his entire career, retiring as a full partner at Dennison, Meserole, Pollack & Scheiner.
He remained deeply devoted to his extended family throughout his life, making annual trips to Miami and Connecticut to visit relatives. In retirement, he rediscovered his love of tools and woodworking, restoring furniture found at flea markets and auctions and carving whimsical wooden mice for his grandchildren. He was an avid reader with a particular fondness for thrillers, and a shrewd, self-taught investor whose insight into the stock market was sought after by family and friends alike.
David is remembered for his gentleness, integrity, and quiet devotion to the people he loved. Above all, he lived by one guiding principle: take care of each other, no matter what. He is survived by his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter, who carry that legacy forward.
